The ‘Don’t touch me plant’

The Mimosa Pudica is also known as the ‘Don’t touch me plant’. It is an amazing plant with tropical looking foliage and puffy pink flowers, the amazing leaf action is what makes this tropical plant so intriguing: At the slightest touch, the leaflets will quickly close together!

As soon as I get it, it will probably be renamed to the ‘touch me plant’ 😉
The plant has fern-like leaves that have tiny hairs, these hairs are very sensitive to touch, motion, and temperature, and when stimulated, each pair of leaflets close together in a fan-like motion.
The motion in leaves will only occur when the temperature is above 18 C°.

It is native to tropical South and Central America and flowers in late summer to early fall. In the Netherlands is often sold as a houseplant, you can grow it outside in the garden but you will have to take it inside before the first frost.

Care:
Well-draining soil, bright light, some direct sunlight and temperatures between (16-30 C ° ) and they like a high humidity.
